Jose Cestero - 2014 Series of Colonial Zone Figures
Jose Cestero (1937-) is one of the first and greatest masters of Contemporary Dominican art. His works are characterized by movement and color in a light, fluid brushstroke that almost appear like oil sketches. He has painted and studied in the USA and Europe and his paintings reflect an international influence that is rare in Latin American art. Works by some Fauvists and their successors, like Raul Dufy, come to mind.
This painting depicts a well-known figure in the area of El Conde, the pedestrian street in the Colonial Zone - The Blind Woman. The painting is truly a masterpiece of Dominican art. It will make a wonderful decorative piece, too.
