The island of Hispaniola comprises two countries, each with it’s own fascinating and unique culture: the Dominican Republic and Haiti. One way in which this difference is apparent is their art. Haitian art has more naive, primitive roots and is highly influenced by the religion (voodoo) and daily life of the people, while Dominican art has been directly influenced by Europeans who settled or visited the country.
